The Physiotherapy profession covers a broad spectrum of services. Thornleigh Physiotherapy treats symptoms related to sport injuries, age, overuse, or rehabilitation post surgery. The initial treatment consists of assessment and treatment. Early, accurate diagnosis relies on the clinical skills and experience of the therapist and expedites the treatment progression. When needed this may require collaboration with a GP, specialist or diagnostic centre. Attention is paid to identifying underlying causes and maintaining results long term. This is assisted by implementing an exercise programme and identifying ergonomic factors that may present barriers to recovery .
This treatment approach is applied to the following
SPINE
Neck and shoulder pain, headaches, back pain which may include Sciatica, thigh and groin pain.
SHOULDER
Rotator cuff strains, stiff shoulder (also called frozen shoulder), post operative rehabilitation using protocols provided by the surgeon.
KNEE
Patella tracking problems in the young and older patient, ligament and muscle strains and the arthritic knee.
FOOT AND ANKLE
Plantar fasciitis, acute ankle sprains and strains.

ORTHOTICS
Orthotics can be supplied to assist in the treatment and assessment of some conditions. However, the service does not replace the expertise of a Podiatrist.
EQUIPMENT
A limited number of braces, crutches, weights and balance boards are available for loan on a needs basis.
ERGONOMIC ASSESSMENT
These are made in conjunction with the treatment regime. Photos of workplace and home office assist in the assessment.
HOME VISITS
Home visits are restricted to a 10km radius for patients who are unable to attend rooms. Generally this covers, Westleigh, Thornleigh, Normanhurst, Pennant Hills, Wahroonga, Cherrybrook, Hornsby and Beecroft. This service extends to Department of Veteran Affairs patients.
FALLS PREVENTION
Balance assessment and exercises when needed are generally integrated with rooms and home visits. To assist the balance exercise programme two DVD’s made by N.S.W. Health and Monash University are available. These exercises are safe, simple to follow and are best implemented with an assessment of suitability from a therapist.
